Recent days have been running together. At times, we feel like squirrels running around and deciding which “nut to crack”.
We are grateful for more Spring warmth and sunshine, even though with it comes mud, rain, soft, tender ground, wet cold dreary days, and thunder! Today there is brilliant sun and projected temps in the low 60’s! The sheep and Angora goats were sheared last Saturday so are happy to be wearing their “spring jackets”.

We recently finished working on our scheduled timber stand improvements. It was good timing before more rain arrived and work in the woods would have been more dangerous and miserable.
In mid December 2021, a major windstorm blew throughout the night. We had damage to a part of the milk house and a few small animal shelters. Our oldest son had rebuilt the shelter over our milk/bulk tank and this week he finished rebuilding a sheep building. When their pasture has grown green and lush they’ll move in their new digs.
On Wednesday and Thursday we had a dairy herd health check and completed vaccinations as needed for our sheep, goats, and dairy herd. Part of our herd health check is to confirm pregnancies. 2022 will bring much new life to the farm! Our daughter was VERY happy to hear her cow “Kahlani” will be having twins. She happily rose at 5:30am this morning to help milk.
Tis the Season for Spring cleaning on the farm. This week we hope to put a dent in that.
My brunch cake is finally done baking and a cup of coffee awaits.
