Community

March 3rd, 2025. The weather is calm, bright, and calls for a high of 56 and a low of 28. Winter has moved fast here on the farm-but has been so hectic. It’s been mild for the most part with little lasting snow cover and not too many sub zero days. But, we need more moisture for a good growing year and if that means more snow before Spring rain, that’s OK.

This year marks 154 years of this farm moving from generation to generation. As we look to the new year and not knowing what it will bring, we don’t take the farm’s history for granted. There have been so many good and bad times, and trying and optimistic times.

Four themes stand out in the farm’s history: Purpose, Resilience, Community, and Food.

Years ago when we started talking about opening a little on-farm store, we didn’t know how much it would enrich our lives. As we start our 3rd year of FarmerSown Market, and our 31st year of farming together, COMMUNITY stands out.

The farming lifestyle can be isolating. We know that we are helping feed our community and are part of it’s economy- but we are seemingly operating behind some wall that hides us from our customers. Having the store has connected us with people in the most heartwarming and human ways. The best part has been getting to know new people and re-connecting with others- seeing each other in a new light and conversing over shared values. Like no other, food and community, and a community of food remind us of our humanity.

So, thank you community- friends, neighbors, family. We look forward to seeing you at the farm and hope we can provide you with something of purpose.
